OpenAI Unveils Always-On AI Agents Called Dots

Powered by GPT-6 Astra, Dots have their own cloud computer, can learn from feedback over time and work towards users’ goals 24/7.

New Delhi, September 29: OpenAI on Tuesday unveiled Dots, always-on AI agents designed to work towards users’ goals across apps with little supervision. Powered by GPT-6 Astra, Dots have their own cloud computer, can learn from feedback over time and work towards users’ goals 24/7. Through OpenAI’s ecosystem of plugins, the agents can connect to more than 4,000 apps, allowing them to carry out tasks across different services.

“Dots are frontier intelligence that have your back,” OpenAI said. Users can currently start with a primary Dot, give it a name and customise it. OpenAI said it eventually envisions teams of Dots working together on behalf of users. The company has begun rolling out Dots across Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise plans in eligible markets, with plans to expand access to more users.

OpenAI is also previewing specialist Dots designed for organisational use. These agents will have their own identities for access management, support IT-provisioned hardware and offer deep integrations with a company’s systems of record. According to OpenAI, these specialist Dots are intended to take on well-defined responsibilities within organisations.

The launch comes as interest in autonomous AI agents grows, with Meta’s Muse drawing millions of downloads earlier this month and affecting shares of companies seen by investors as potential beneficiaries or disruptors of autonomous AI services.
