New Delhi, September 8: Following the tragic collapse of a building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Sunday, the MCD is planning a large-scale survey of paying guest (PG) accommodations and the number of occupants they house, with a focus on identifying facilities that may be unsafe, according to officials aware of the developments, reported Hindustan Times.
Two days after Sunday’s tragedy involving a five-storey building that housed a PG, civic officials carried out a large-scale demolition drive against unauthorised and unsafe buildings in a separate action. A day earlier, the MCD had suspended five officials, including a deputy commissioner.Tuesday’s drive saw 35 demolitions across 12 MCD zones.
The action included a major demolition exercise in Najafgarh and another against a four-storey building in Shahdara North. Multiple demolitions were also carried out in Rohini (six), Narela (three) and Civil Lines (three), among other areas. Shahdara North recorded six demolitions.
In addition, nine sealing actions were carried out, including two against large godowns in Karol Bagh and one against a hotel in the West Zone. The MCD plans to further intensify action against unauthorised construction, misuse of properties and dangerous structures. Several such properties have already been identified for major action.
