New Delhi, September 8: Nearly 300 flights were reportedly cancelled on Tuesday after air traffic control provider NATS experienced a technical issue, according to flight-tracking website Flightradar24. Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Stansted were among the airports affected by cancellations and delays.
“We have identified that the issue was in our flight processing system. Our engineers are on site and working urgently to resume normal operations as quickly as possible. We recognise the ongoing disruption to travel, for which we sincerely apologise,” NATS said in a statement. “Flights are still departing and airspace is open, but recovery will take some time,” it added.
Heathrow airport said the air traffic control service provided by NATS was experiencing a technical issue that was affecting departing flights at UK airports, while arriving flights were not currently impacted. “We are supporting our local NATS team in their efforts to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We will provide updated information when we have it,” Heathrow said.
Edinburgh Airport said a fix to the technical issue affecting UK airspace, including Edinburgh, had been implemented by NATS. “Some knock-on disruption is likely throughout the day as operations recover across the UK,” the airport said.
