New Delhi, September 2: India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in August 2026 came close to the ₹2 lakh crore mark, rising 14.8% year-on-year despite a sharp increase in refunds and higher imports, according to government data.
Gross GST collections stood at ₹1,99,853 crore in August, compared with ₹1,74,116 crore in the same month last year, the Finance Ministry data released on Tuesday showed. The figures continue to reflect the resilience of the Indian economy and improved compliance.
After accounting for ₹31,795 crore in refunds, net GST collections stood at ₹1,68,057 crore in August 2026, compared with ₹1,55,181 crore in August 2025, marking an 8.3% year-on-year increase. Refunds also rose sharply during the month, reaching ₹31,795 crore compared with ₹18,935 crore in August last year, an increase of around 68%.
