New Delhi, September 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed India’s 7.8% GDP growth in the April-June quarter, describing it as a reflection of the country’s “collective strength”. He also took a swipe at those spreading what he called “jhooth ki goonj”, saying the latest growth figures had punctured the narrative of pessimism surrounding the Indian economy.
In a video message, PM Modi congratulated citizens on the latest growth figures and said the performance came despite a challenging global environment marked by wars, supply chain disruptions and economic uncertainty.
“Heartiest congratulations to my fellow citizens. A growth rate of 7.8%, the nation is filled with joy. I congratulate the people of this country for their resolve and their industrious spirit; this reflects our collective strength,” he said.

PM Modi said India’s strong growth came at a time when the world was facing multiple crises and disrupted supply chains. Referring to the period since the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, he said global stability had remained elusive, yet India continued to progress at a fast pace.
The Prime Minister said India must sustain its growth momentum and work towards greater self-reliance. He urged citizens to embrace “Swadeshi” and “Vocal for Local” by supporting domestic products and reducing spending that takes money out of the country.
PM Modi also appealed to people to avoid travelling abroad merely for leisure or holding weddings overseas. Instead, he called for “Weddings in India” and advised citizens to refrain from buying gold unless absolutely necessary.
