New Delhi, September 2: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz after himself, as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate. Trump made the suggestion in a post on Truth Social, asking whether the strategic waterway could be renamed “TRUMP STRAIT” now that he claimed it was under US control.
“Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???” Trump wrote. He followed the suggestion with a reference to his earlier move involving Lake Ontario, saying the proposed name would be “‘hotter’ than ever before”.
The remark came less than a week after Trump signed an executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America”, amid his intensifying feud with Canada.
Trump’s latest suggestion comes as the confrontation between Washington and Tehran has intensified. US Central Command said American forces carried out a wave of strikes against Iranian military targets on September 1, including air-defence sites, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications facilities.
