New Delhi, September 2: India’s Kidambi Srikanth and Tanvi Sharma advanced to the second round of the China Masters Super 750 tournament in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, after securing straight-game victories in their respective singles events. India’s men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, along with the mixed doubles duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, also progressed to the next round.
In men’s singles, 2021 World Championships silver medallist Srikanth defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu Jen 21-16, 21-15 in his opening match. The former World No. 1 will next face Canada’s World No. 9 Victor Lai. However, Lakshya Sen’s campaign came to an end after the 2021 World Championships bronze medallist lost to Victor Lai 14-21, 7-21.
In women’s singles, 17-year-old Tanvi Sharma beat Denmark’s Amalie Schulz 21-16, 21-17. The Punjab player, who won her maiden BWF World Tour title at the Taipei Open last month, will take on Japan’s Tomoka Miyazaki in the second round.
In men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Malaysia’s Junaidi Arif and Kang Khai Xing 21-11, 21-16. The Asian Games gold medallists will next face French brothers Christo and Toma Junior Popov. In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto registered a 21-8, 21-9 win over Thailand’s Tonnakorn Saeheng and Tonnicha Saeheng. They will next meet Chinese Taipei’s Liu Kuang Heng and Hsu Yin-Hui.
