RBI To Sell Government Securities Worth Rs 1 Lakh Crore Amid Liquidity Surge

The RBI on Friday announced that it will sell government securities worth Rs 1 lakh crore through open market operations amid a surge in liquidity following the mobilisation of FCNR(B) deposits.

New Delhi, September 12: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday announced that it will sell government securities worth Rs 1 lakh crore through open market operations amid a surge in liquidity following the mobilisation of FCNR(B) deposits. The sale will be conducted in three tranches of Rs 50,000 crore, Rs 25,000 crore and Rs 25,000 crore on September 17, September 21 and September 28, 2026, respectively, the RBI said.

The central bank said it reserves the right to decide the quantum of individual securities to be sold and accept bids for less than the aggregate amount. It may also sell a marginally higher or lower amount than the aggregate amount due to rounding-off. The RBI also said it can accept or reject any or all bids, either wholly or partially, without assigning any reason.

Eligible participants will have to submit their bids electronically through the RBI’s Core Banking Solution (E-Kuber) system between 9:30 am and 10:30 am on September 17, 2026. Physical bids will be accepted only in case of a system failure and must be submitted to the Financial Markets Operations Department in the prescribed form before 10:30 am.

The result of the auction will be announced on the same day. Successful participants will have to ensure that funds are available in their current accounts by 12 noon on September 18, 2026.
