New Delhi, October 1: Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal warned at the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee that a fertiliser shortage today could lead to a food crisis tomorrow. Speaking during a session on food and trade, Goyal said food security and creating greater opportunities for farmers were central to India’s policy, adding that food should never be used as an instrument of pressure against any country.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Goyal also held a discussion with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the proposed India-US trade deal.
His social media post on the same can be seen here.
Goyal described the discussion as “productive” and said both sides discussed an early conclusion of a mutually beneficial interim agreement under the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement. The two also exchanged views on the G20 deliberations under the US presidency.
