New Delhi, September 29: Asian Games debutant and TOPS Development Athlete Neeru Dhanda won the gold medal in the women’s trap individual event at the Asian Games 2026 on Tuesday, setting both an Asian record and an Asian Games record.
The 26-year-old Indian shooter hit 28 of 30 targets in the final at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, finishing two hits ahead of China’s Sun Yunong. Kuwait’s Hajar Abdulmalik won the bronze medal with 21 hits.
With the victory, Neeru became the first Indian shooter to win an individual gold medal in women’s trap at the Asian Games. She also became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold in any shotgun event and India’s first-ever individual medallist in women’s trap at the Games, an event that was first contested at Beijing 1990. Neeru’s score of 28 bettered the previous Asian record of 24.
