New Delhi, September 6: Iran’s top negotiator on Sunday warned that Tehran would respond more forcefully to any further US attacks after targeting American warships in the latest round of clashes, AFP reported.
The exchange of fire, which began with US raids last week, comes amid a deadlock in the six-month war between the two sides. The United States is also seeking to choke Iran’s economy by imposing sanctions on entities with financial links to the Islamic Republic, in an effort to force Tehran into submission.
“The Americans must have understood that the era of proportionate responses has come to an end,” Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said. He has also acted as the chief negotiator in talks aimed at ending the war. “Any aggression against Iran’s interests and security will receive a faster, more intense and more painful response,” Ghalibaf added in a speech carried by Iranian state media.
