New Delhi, September 19: The Delhi Election Commission has issued notices to 31.63 lakh voters over discrepancies in their electoral details as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar said on Saturday. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her predecessor, Arvind Kejriwal, are among those who have received notices, reported The New Indian Express.
The notices have been issued to voters whose names could not be linked to the electoral roll from the previous revision, as well as those whose records were linked but showed “logical discrepancies” in details such as names or dates of birth.
“As on date, 31,63,930 notices have been generated and are being delivered to electors concerned of Delhi,” the Delhi CEO office said. Kumar said the notices are of two types — those issued to “unmapped” voters and those issued to voters whose records have been mapped but contain discrepancies.
The notices are being sent during the claims and objections phase of the SIR, which will continue until September 30. Voters who receive them have been asked to submit their replies and required documents to the concerned electoral registration officer (ERO). The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4.
The Delhi CEO office said 33.13 lakh voters whose names appeared in the draft electoral rolls would be sent notices over discrepancies in their enumeration forms. So far, 31.63 lakh notices have been issued, with most relating to missing records from the previous SIR conducted in 2002.
Gupta received a notice over an “age-related discrepancy” in her enumeration form. Following physical verification by a booth-level officer and examination of the documents submitted by her, her electoral entry was validated for inclusion in the final roll. Kejriwal, a voter from the New Delhi Assembly constituency, was issued a notice for being “unmapped with last SIR”. His wife Sunita Kejriwal, parents and son have also received notices on the same grounds, officials said.
The Delhi CEO office said the list of voters issued notices has been uploaded on its website and is also available at prominent locations. Electoral teams are conducting camps to hear claims and objections, with more camps to be added if required.
