New Delhi, September 29: Four personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were killed in a suspected case of fratricide in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma reportedly said. The firing took place around 7:30 pm at the Sewa-III power project in Mashka village of Kathua district. The personnel were deployed to guard the hydroelectric power station on the Sewa River, a tributary of the Ravi.
The incident is suspected to have followed an altercation between CISF personnel, after which an officer allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on his colleagues. Those killed were Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, SI Lakshman Singh, and constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar. All four succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to NHPC Hospital in Himachal Pradesh.
The accused, CISF head constable Abhidesh Singh, was overpowered by his colleagues and arrested following the incident. He allegedly used an AK-47 to fire at the other personnel.
