New Delhi, September 1: At least 12 people, including an Indian national, were killed and more than a dozen others injured after Russia launched an overnight air assault on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday. The strikes reportedly marked the sixth consecutive day of attacks on the Ukrainian capital. Authorities said residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged, while emergency crews worked to put out fires reported at several locations.
In a social media post, Zelenskyy said nearly 350 first responders were involved in rescue and recovery operations in Kyiv and the surrounding region. He said the overnight assault involved a significant number of jet-powered drones and ballistic missiles. In Boryspil, a five-storey residential building was damaged, forcing the evacuation of 50 people. Four people were killed and 13 injured in the city, Zelenskyy said.

He added that guided aerial bomb and drone strikes had continued against Odesa and the surrounding region since Monday evening. Thousands of families were left without electricity, while a border crossing with Romania and export infrastructure were also damaged.
In Kyiv, seven people were killed in a strike on a railway depot, according to Zelenskyy. The Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy and Dnipro regions also came under attack.
“Overall, 12 people were killed, among them an Indian citizen, and dozens more were injured in the attack,” Zelenskyy said, expressing condolences to those who lost their family members and loved ones. Zelenskyy also said the scale of casualties depended directly on the availability of air defence capabilities. He thanked countries supporting Ukraine with anti-ballistic capabilities and called for increased assistance in the coming months.
