New Delhi, September 1: Union minister Chirag Paswan has received a death threat through an anonymous letter that warned he would be “killed shortly by hardcore terrorists”, according to Hindustan Times. Paswan’s additional private secretary wrote to the home secretary, flagging the communication as a “matter of grave concern” over the personal security of the Union minister for food processing industries.
Paswan is currently under Z-category security cover across the country. According to the letter, the ministry received an unsigned communication on Tuesday containing two mobile numbers and a “direct threat” to the minister’s life.
“The threatening portion of the communication, excluding the mobile numbers mentioned therein, reads: ‘You will be killed shortly by hardcore terrorists,’” the letter said. The communication was described as a serious security concern, with Paswan’s office saying it raised apprehensions about the minister’s safety, particularly because of the reference to “hardcore terrorists”. The original communication was also enclosed with the letter.
Paswan’s office sought an urgent investigation into the origin and authenticity of the threat and requested a review of his existing security arrangements. The letter also asked that his security cover be suitably strengthened, if necessary, considering the threat perception and his scheduled public engagements. Besides the Union home ministry, the letter was also sent to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Bihar government to bring the threat to their attention.
