New Delhi, August 27: At least 826 people remain unaccounted for after devastating flash floods hit Nepal’s Bhotekoshi area on Wednesday, according to The Kathmandu Post. Those missing include local residents, security personnel, as well as foreign and domestic tourists.
According to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, 44 Nepali Army personnel, 28 Nepal Police personnel and 13 Armed Police Force personnel are among those whose whereabouts remain unknown. A total of 162 people from Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts have also been reported out of contact. The number of tourists who remain unreachable has also risen sharply. The Nepal Tourism Board said 590 tourists, including 476 foreigners and 114 Nepalis, have been reported out of contact following the disaster.
As rescue and relief operations continue, the government has divided the response into 12 sectors, with separate teams assigned to oversee search and rescue, relief, medical assistance, electricity restoration and emergency communications. The teams, formed under the Rasuwa Flood Response Committee, are also handling international aid and donor coordination, transportation and connectivity, damage assessment, relief supplies, airport operations, management of the deceased and tracing families who have lost contact with relatives.
