New Delhi, August 27: Following the devastating flash floods in the country, the Nepal Tourism Board on Thursday said 178 Indian nationals are among 644 travellers reported missing from the affected areas. The flash floods struck the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha districts a day earlier, causing severe damage along the riverside areas.
In an update on the situation, the Nepal Tourism Board said a preliminary agency-wise record received from trekking and travel companies identified 644 travellers, including 127 Nepali nationals, as missing from the affected areas. The board said the information is currently being verified and cross-checked in coordination with travel agencies, guides, local authorities and security agencies.
The situation has also affected nationals from several other countries. According to the update, 53 Ukrainian citizens, 35 Australian citizens and 25 Canadian citizens are among those reported missing. The Tourism Board said the riverside areas along the four affected districts, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha, bordering the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers have suffered severe damage. However, it added that other areas remain unaffected.
