New Delhi, August 27: The 25th Round of Talks between the SR of India and China on the Boundary Question was held in Beijing on August 25, 2026, with both sides reaching an eight-point outcome and consensus on the way forward. China’s Special Representative Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and India’s Special Representative Ajit Doval, National Security Adviser, held a candid and in-depth exchange of views on the India-China boundary question.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to follow the guidance received from the leaders of the two countries, maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas and create an atmosphere for the healthy and steady development of bilateral relations.
They also underlined their commitment to advancing negotiations on a framework for settling the boundary question in accordance with the 2005 Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles for Settlement of the India-China Boundary Question and the consensus reached during subsequent SR Talks. The objective is to pursue a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution.
The Expert Group on Boundary Delimitation and the Working Group on Border Management under the WMCC will advance discussions on an Early and Substantial Harvest of boundary delimitation and border management. The first task for both groups will be to agree on their respective Terms of Reference.
The two sides also agreed that any situation on the ground would be addressed promptly through existing diplomatic and military channels, including the WMCC, local commander-level meetings and other agreed mechanisms, to resolve outstanding issues and avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation along the LAC. They also discussed ways to improve understanding of the LAC in appropriate areas for better border management.
As part of efforts to improve border management, India and China agreed on two additional meeting points for the General Level Mechanism/Senior Highest Military Commander meeting. They also agreed on two additional border military hotline channels in the Eastern and Middle Sectors.
Both sides noted progress in trans-border cooperation. India appreciated China’s efforts to increase the number of batches of Indian official pilgrims undertaking the Kailash-Manasarovar Yatra in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. The two sides also welcomed the reopening of three designated border trading points and agreed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in border trade, pilgrimage and other areas.
They said the objective would be to work together to create an atmosphere of dialogue, peace, consultation and cooperation in the border areas.
The two sides further agreed to hold the next meeting of the India-China Expert-Level Mechanism on Trans-border Rivers in September and maintain communication on issues including hydrological data sharing and renewal of the relevant Memorandums of Understanding.
The 26th round of Special Representatives’ Talks was agreed to be held in India in 2027.
