New Delhi, August 27: India’s Sumit Nagal’s US Open campaign came to an end in the qualifying round after he suffered a straight-set defeat against France’s Arthur Gea in New York. The top-seeded Frenchman secured a 6-3, 7-6(4) win to advance to the second round, while Nagal’s wait for another Grand Slam main-draw appearance continues.
The loss also means Nagal has now missed the main draw at seven consecutive Grand Slam tournaments. His last appearance in a major main draw came at the 2025 Australian Open, where he was defeated in the opening round.
Nagal remained competitive against Gea, especially during the second set, but was unable to capitalise on key points. Gea kept his composure during the tiebreak, eventually sealing the win and bringing the Indian’s qualifying campaign to an end.
