New Delhi, August 27: Canadian voice actor Peter Cullen, best known for voicing the heroic Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise and the gloomy Eeyore in numerous Winnie the Pooh projects, has died at the age of 85, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Cullen died on Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles, his agent Kevin Motley told The Hollywood Reporter. In a statement, Cullen’s family said he “passed away peacefully” surrounded by his family and remembered by friends and fans around the world. They also urged people to honour his legacy by serving their communities and leading others with compassion, integrity and loyalty.
Born in Montreal, Cullen had a career that stretched across films, television shows and video games. Apart from Optimus Prime and Eeyore, he also voiced King Kong in the 1976 remake of King Kong.
He also played the evil K.A.R.R., short for Knight Automated Roving Robot, in the Knight Rider series in 1982 and 2009. Cullen also contributed to one of cinema’s memorable monster sounds, creating the frightening clicking sounds heard from the creature in Arnold Schwarzenegger-starrer Predator (1987).
