New Delhi, August 10: The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Monday, with the death toll rising to 100 after two more people died in the floods. Nearly 1.4 lakh people across seven districts are currently struggling with the impact of the deluge, according to theAssam State Disaster Management Authority.
According to the authority’s daily flood bulletin issued on Sunday night, two people died in Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts in the past 24 hours. The latest fatalities have taken the total number of people killed in Assam’s floods this year to 100. Floodwaters have inundated 456 villages and damaged more than 11,900 hectares of crop land across the state.
Over 1,37,500 people are affected in Charaideo, Darrang, Golaghat, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Sivasagar districts. Golaghat has been hit the hardest, with nearly 70,000 people affected. Sivasagar follows with around 40,000 affected, while more than 16,000 people in Jorhat are dealing with the floodwaters.
To support those affected, the administration is running 125 relief camps and relief distribution centres across six districts. These facilities are currently providing shelter and assistance to 49,061 people.
