New Delhi, August 28: At least 290 Indian nationals remain uncontactable following the devastating flash floods in Nepal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in a “preliminary assessment” of the situation. On India’s support to Nepal amid the disaster, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the second consignment of 37.5 tonnes of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief material, medicines and food packets had been handed over to Nepal’s Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mahabir Pun. The supplies are intended to support Nepal’s flood relief and rescue efforts.
“India remains committed to standing by Nepal and its people,” Jaiswal said. Around 200 Indian nationals who are safe are seeking assistance with evacuation. Of them, around 95 are in Darchen, a small village in Tibet, and are proceeding towards Hilsa to cross into Nepal.
The remaining Indians seeking evacuation assistance include four people in Jilong City, 30 in Zutulphuk who are travelling towards Saga, and another 60-70 people travelling to other locations. The flash floods have killed at least 359 people in Nepal, according to the preliminary assessment shared by the MEA.
