New Delhi, October 2: Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged voter-roll irregularities and warned of a “Jantar Mantar 2.0” agitation. Addressing a gathering at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, Dipke targeted the BJP-led government and alleged that voter names had been removed from electoral rolls across the country through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Dipke claimed the deletions could affect election outcomes, citing alleged voter deletions in Delhi, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. He also alleged that the exercise selectively targeted opposition-led states and questioned why similar deletions had not affected BJP strongholds.Dipke said that if Kumar did not resign, the protest would be followed by a demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation.
Actor Shabana Azmi, music director Vishal Dadlani and Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson Tushar Gandhi joined the protest at Shivaji Park, which drew a large crowd and support from young people. Dipke further accused the BJP dispensation of trying to divide voters along religious lines, saying that “Hindu-Muslim politics” would no longer work and urging Gen-Z to look beyond religion. He also criticised the defections of MLAs and MPs between 2022 and 2024, alleging that legislators were being bought and sold in an “IPL-style auction”.
