New Delhi, September 29: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday doubled down on his push to rename artificial intelligence as “super intelligence”, saying the technology is “far bigger” than the internet and the Industrial Revolution. Trump also said he had spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping about the proposed name and claimed that Xi “loves it”. Trump had previously used the term “super intelligence” during Xi’s Washington visit and again during his address at the United Nations General Assembly.
Speaking to reporters after unveiling a new AI-powered website designed as a one-stop shop for government services, Trump said he would sign an executive order on the renaming. Trump questioned the use of the word “artificial” in artificial intelligence, comparing the term with “fake news”. “We’re changing the name to superintelligence. And so far, I mean, everybody likes it,” Trump said.
He also said AI would be “bigger than the Industrial Revolution” and stressed that he would “never stifle the growth of technology”. Describing the technology, Trump referred to “superintelligence” as “extreme intelligence”, “superior intelligence” and “supreme” intelligence.
