New Delhi, September 6: US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on Sunday for their first official visit to Ukraine, as Washington renewed efforts to push for peace between Ukraine and Russia. Their visit came a day after they met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for more than three hours in an attempt to revive peace talks, even as aerial attacks by both sides intensified, reported India Today.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv was ready for a “constructive” discussion with the US representatives. “We are interested in bringing the end of the war closer. Peace is needed. Security guarantees are needed. A just and sustainable postwar peace is needed. Our proposals are prepared,” he said in a post on Telegram.
Saturday’s meeting ended without any announced breakthrough. Putin’s foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov described the talks as constructive, frank and useful, but did not provide details about the outcome. He said Moscow had presented its “comprehensive assessment” of the battlefield situation in Ukraine, while adding that the discussions were not limited to the war.
