New Delhi, August 26: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the BJP-led Bihar government of using the police to evade accountability over the ongoing student protests in the state.
In a post on X in Hindi, Gandhi questioned the government over alleged irregularities in recruitment exams and allegations of paper leaks. “The students in Bihar have a very straightforward question, Why are there irregularities in recruitment exams?” he said, asking why no action had been taken on allegations of paper leaks and how long the “tampering with the future of the youth” would continue.
Gandhi said students had been protesting for a long time over the recruitment process, exam pattern, delays and transparency, but alleged that the government was responding with batons, water cannons and detentions instead of answers. He said students would continue to raise questions and demanded accountability from the government.
Gandhi’s remarks came amid the controversy surrounding a viral video of a six-year-old slum-dwelling boy, Aditya, who was seen making sharp comments at a student protest in Patna before being taken away by police and later handed over to his mother. Social media was abuzz with claims that the boy had been “arrested”. Police, however, dismissed the claim, saying he was taken to the police station “for his own safety” and later handed over to his mother, a house help.
