700 Protesters, AAP Leaders Detained In Delhi During Protests Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

The protest involved the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), All India Students’ Association (AISA), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and other student and youth organisations.

New Delhi, October 2: Parts of central Delhi witnessed protests on Friday as hundreds of opposition activists and student groups marched towards Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Around 700 protesters were detained by the Delhi Police as they attempted to proceed towards the designated protest site, reported PTI. The protest involved the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), All India Students’ Association (AISA), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and other student and youth organisations.

Protesters raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the electoral-roll revision exercise and the deletion of voters. At several locations, including Firoz Shah Road and Ashoka Road, protesters tried to cross police barricades but were stopped from proceeding towards Jantar Mantar.

AISA president Neha Bora and other members of the organisation were also seen attempting to move towards Jantar Mantar before being stopped by the Delhi Police.
